DCP withdrew its preferred candidate, Duncan Mbui, in favor of DP candidate Newton Karish, with Gachagua spending 10 days on the ground campaigning.

However, the opposition narrowly lost the seat to the United Alliance (UDA) after Mbui remained in the race as an independent and split the anti-government vote.
