The Morning Show to Conclude With Fifth Season on Apple TV+ in 2027

Apple has officially confirmed that its hit drama series The Morning Show will conclude with its fifth season, which is scheduled to premiere in 2027. The series, which launched alongside the Apple TV streaming platform in 2019, stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and has become one of the streamer’s defining original titles.

The decision to end the show comes as the creative team prepares for a final chapter designed with intentionality to honor the characters. While the news of a final season may signal a change in direction for Apple’s slate, the move aligns with long-standing industry speculation that the high-profile drama was approaching its natural finish line.

A Final Creative Chapter for Aniston and Witherspoon

The series, which began with a straight-to-series order in 2017, has served as a cornerstone of Apple’s streaming strategy. For the stars and executive producers, the upcoming final season represents the completion of a long-term professional journey. Both Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon expressed their gratitude for the experience in statements released alongside the announcement.

“From the beginning, Apple has supported our vision for ‘The Morning Show,’ and we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to tell stories that reflect what’s happening in the world around us with a twist of dark humor. It’s been such a privilege to work with this insanely talented cast, and our extraordinary writers, producers, and crew. We’ve become such a family and we’re all so excited to share this final season.”

Witherspoon highlighted the thematic weight the show carried throughout its run, emphasizing its focus on the media industry. This was always more than a show about a newsroom — it was a show about why the newsroom matters, Witherspoon noted, as reported by Variety. About freedom of the press, and the journalists who protect the fourth estate, often at great cost.

Expansion of the Ensemble Cast for Season 5

As the show heads toward its conclusion, the production is maintaining its tradition of bringing on high-profile talent. Season five features a returning core ensemble including Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm. According to Deadline, the final season will also introduce several new names to the cast, including Jeff Daniels, Reneé Rapp, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes, and Lizzy Caplan.

These additions join a production that has already navigated complex storylines involving corporate mergers and media ethics. The fourth season, which premiered in September 2025, focused on the aftermath of the UBA-NBN merger, exploring themes of deepfakes and corporate cover-ups. With the fifth season now in production, the creative team, led by showrunner and executive producer Charlotte Stoudt and director and executive producer Mimi Leder, is tasked with wrapping up these intricate narratives.

Apple’s Perspective on the Series Legacy

For Apple, the end of The Morning Show marks the closing of a foundational era. Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video, noted that the series helped launch the company’s entire streaming platform. Our first order was an important one, and seeing this incredible Apple TV series through from start to finish has been the joy of a lifetime and career, Van Amburg said, via The Hollywood Reporter.

Jamie Erlicht, also head of Worldwide Video at Apple, echoed this sentiment, stating that the show’s impact would likely continue well past the airing of the final episodes. The network is already looking toward future collaborations with the show’s key players; Aniston, Witherspoon, Leder, and Stoudt all maintain ongoing professional relationships or development deals with the streamer.

Looking Toward the 2027 Premiere

While an exact release date for the final season remains unannounced, the show’s historical release pattern provides a strong indication of what fans can expect. As 9to5mac reported, the series has traditionally premiered in the fall, suggesting that September 2027 is the likely window for the final broadcast. For viewers who have followed the series since its 2019 debut, the next year will serve as a lead-up to the conclusion of the story, which has accumulated 28 Emmy nominations across its run to date.
