RIMS Imphal Observes World Physiotherapy Day 2026

On September 8, 2026, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal marked World Physiotherapy Day with an official observance held at the institution’s OPD Complex. According to staff reporting from the event, the gathering centered on the official theme, “Role of Physiotherapy in the Prevention, Management and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke.”

The event drew a wide array of medical professionals and institutional leaders. Attendees included RIMS Director Professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Medical Superintendent Professor N Sanjib Singh, and Head of Physiotherapy Dr Joybi Heikrujam, alongside various physiotherapists, clinical doctors, nursing staff, and medical students.

Expanding Infrastructure and Academic Horizons at RIMS

Addressing the assembled healthcare workers and students during the observance, leadership outlined major structural growth for the facility. Speaking on the occasion, Director G Sunil Kumar Sharma highlighted the growing importance of physiotherapy in comprehensive patient care and announced plans for expansion of the Physiotherapy Unit and establishment of a dedicated teaching institute at RIMS in the near future, staff reports indicate.

Director Sharma noted that these upcoming initiatives are designed to reinforce physiotherapy education, clinical services, professional training, and institutional research at RIMS. Furthermore, the Director emphasized the expanding scope of physiotherapy across multiple medical disciplines, calling out specific impact areas in Ortho-paedics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), and Sports Medicine, particularly regarding post-operative rehabilitation and athletic injuries.

Public Awareness, Clinical Demonstrations, and Recognition

Beyond administrative announcements, the day featured active public engagement and clinical education. Exhibition stalls and an interactive awareness camp formed a core part of the campus observance.
