Ang Yiting appointed new Lianhe Zaobao editor

Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao newspaper will have a new editor, Ms. Ang Yiting, starting May 5, succeeding Goh Sin Teck who is retiring after 14 years in the role.

Ms. Ang, 45, is currently an associate editor at the publication and brings over 20 years of journalism experience, including work with Channel U News, Lianhe Wanbao, My Paper, and Lianhe Zaobao as a Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) scholarship holder.

Upon her appointment, Ms. Ang stated, “From signing my scholarship bond at 18 to assuming this responsibility today with a full awareness of its weight, I feel both humbled and apprehensive, yet determined not to disappoint the trust placed in me.” She emphasized the publication’s evolution and commitment to its audience, stating, “From Zaobao’s beginnings as a newspaper to its evolution into a multi-platform, multimedia presence… my colleagues and I are deeply privileged… We take up this baton with a commitment to walk alongside our audience.”

Mr. Goh, 63, who has served as editor since August 1, 2011, will transition to the role of senior editorial adviser to Lianhe Zaobao.

Mr. Goh described the announcement as a continuation of Zaobao’s legacy, noting that each generation of editors faces unique challenges. He added, “While strategies may differ, the shared conviction has remained the same – to keep Zaobao moving forward and innovating continuously to meet the changing needs of readers.” He expressed gratitude for the team that supported his tenure.

“My leg of the relay is coming to an end, but Zaobao’s journey ahead remains long and full of promise. I am confident that Yiting and her team will continue to drive the publication forward with renewal and determination,” Mr. Goh said.

SPH Media’s Chinese Media Group editor-in-chief, Ms. Lee Huay Leng, expressed her support for Ms. Ang and her peers, acknowledging their courage and responsibility in taking on the leadership role. She also extended gratitude to Mr. Goh and senior colleagues for their mentorship.

The leadership change was announced on February 27, coinciding with the Chinese Media Group’s Annual News Awards 2025, which recognized excellence in news reporting, video production, commentary, and feature writing.
