Marking its fifth anniversary after welcoming more than 2.5 million visitors annually for the past three years in a row, the M+ Museum in Hong Kong is launching a major cultural alliance with the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The milestone celebration over the next month and beyond shows the institution's rapid ascent as one of the foremost contemporary art hubs in Asia.
The landmark collaboration brings together three leading collecting institutions united by a shared commitment to supporting artistic innovation and expanding public engagement through research and exchange,
Suhanya Raffel, the museum director at M+, said in a statement reported by The Art Newspaper.

M+ Partners with MoMA and Centre Pompidou
That tripartite agreement links M+ with MoMA director Christophe Cherix and Centre Pompidou president Laurent Le Bon. Through the initiative, leadership aims to exchange perspectives from Hong Kong and the broader region while forging a more sustainable future for museums worldwide.
Additional programming anchors the anniversary period. Paulo Pong, the chairman of the board of M+ and a board member of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, discussed upcoming projects in a new episode of the In Focus podcast. These include the exhibition Myths and Monsters: The Art of Fantasy in Asia, running until April 4, 2027, and the M+ Restored Festival running from November 1 to December 27, which highlights nine restored Hong Kong New Wave films.
Five years ago, M+ opened with an ambitious vision: to create a museum rooted in Hong Kong and engaged with the world,Pong said in a statement.More than 12.5 million visits later, we can see how strongly that vision has resonated. This anniversary is an opportunity to thank the people who made it possible, from our museum team and supporters to the visitors who have made M+ part of their lives.

M+ Plans Future Exhibitions and Sustainability Summit
Looking ahead to next year, the museum plans to survey its local avant-garde and cultural scene from the 1970s to the present through Hong Kong: Here and Beyond 2027 from March 13 to August 8, 2027. That exhibition will be followed by a new presentation of the M+ Sigg Collection opening on September 4, 2027, and a major Do Ho Suh exhibition opening on September 25, 2027.
Beyond exhibitions, M+ is asserting its institutional leadership via the Public Conversation: 2026 Culture for the Planet Summit on November 6, focusing on sustainability in cultural operations. Simultaneously, the museum is introducing the M+ Academy initiative in November to mentor emerging cultural workers and widen the professional pipeline for arts organizations.
