Apple CEO Tim Cook led his final quarterly earnings call on July 30, 2026, closing a 15-year tenure as the company reported $109.4 billion in quarterly revenue. Hardware engineering chief John Ternus will officially step into the CEO role on September 1, inheriting a tech giant valued at over $5 trillion.
Tim Cook’s Final Earnings Call Caps a 15-Year Era
Apple held its Q3 2026 earnings call on Thursday, marking Tim Cook’s final outing as CEO at such events before he transitions to the role of executive chairman on September 1. The milestone discussion was Cook’s 90th as chief executive, bringing to a close a transformative 15-year run that began when he succeeded Steve Jobs in August 2011.
The timing of the leadership handoff coincided with a historic valuation milestone. Just days before the call, Apple touched a $5 trillion market cap and surpassed Nvidia as the world’s most valuable company. Over Cook’s decade and a half at the helm, the company’s valuation increased by well over $4 trillion, growing from a $350 billion enterprise into a multi-trillion-dollar titan.
“This will be my final earnings call, and John will lead these calls going forward.”
Tim Cook, CEO, Apple
During the call, Cook reflected on the journey and expressed absolute confidence in his successor. The transition is going seamlessly, and I am beyond excited for John to step into his new role and lead Apple into its next era
Cook told listeners, praising incoming chief executive John Ternus as truly one of a kind

John Ternus Steps In as Hardware Chief Takes the Helm
Ternus, 50, joined Apple in 2001 and has served as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering since 2021, overseeing the development of the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and physical product lineups. Unlike Cook, whose background is rooted in supply chain operations and logistics through companies like Compaq and IBM, Ternus brings a product-and-engineering pedigree to the chief executive office.
Ahead of the formal transition, Cook and Ternus made joint public appearances, including walking the red carpet at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for the Season 4 premiere of Ted Lasso. Ternus acknowledged the mentorship of both Steve Jobs and Cook, pointing to an incredible roadmap ahead.
Q3 Financials Show Strong Revenue Amid Supply Constraints
The company reported $109.4 billion in quarterly revenue—marking a 16 percent increase year over year. Net quarterly profit reached $29.8 billion, with earnings per share coming in at $2.02 to beat analyst expectations.

iPhone sales came in at $54.3 billion, slightly topping Wall Street estimates, while Mac revenue smashed expectations at $10.35 billion compared to an anticipated $8.62 billion. Despite the beats on top and bottom lines, Apple stock dipped 7% following warnings from Cook regarding supply chain hurdles.
Cook cited advanced node availability for system-on-a-chip silicon as the primary bottleneck. The primary issue is advanced nodes that we run our SOCs on,
Cook said on the analyst call. That’s the primary supply constraint now, and the root cause of it is not a regular supply issue. It’s a demand forecast issue.
Regulatory Hurdles and Ongoing Leadership Shifts
As Ternus prepares to take office just weeks before the expected September launch of the iPhone 18 lineup, he inherits a complex regulatory and competitive landscape. Earlier in the month, Cook and Ternus held a virtual meeting with Bavaria’s Minister-President Markus Söder to discuss regional investments and growing industry concerns over European Union technology regulations.

At the same time, Cook is not disappearing from the corporate structure entirely. His new role as executive chairman is expected to focus heavily on government relations, policy work, and regulatory navigation where his established global relationships carry substantial weight.
