Apple TV Brings William Gibson’s Cyberpunk Masterpiece to Hall H

Apple TV made waves at San Diego Comic-Con by taking over Hall H for a two-hour panel—marking the streaming service’s biggest presence yet at the annual pop culture convention. Among the heavy-hitting lineup of trailers and premiere dates, the streamer showcased its first official look at the first teaser for Graham Roland and J.D. Dillard’s Neuromancer adaptation, giving fans a concrete release schedule for the long-awaited project.

The series is scheduled to debut on January 22, 2027, with a 10-episode first season. Showrunner and executive producer Graham Roland pointed out during the panel that the source material’s core concepts have only grown more relevant in the decades since publication.

Roland noted that William Gibson famously coined the term cyberspace before the internet even existed, writing about the collision of human and artificial intelligence long before modern AI became an everyday reality. With those elements now woven into daily life, Roland argued it is the right time to revisit the text.

Inside the Casting and Cyberpunk World of Case and Molly

The newly released footage introduces Callum Turner as Case, whom Turner portrays as an exceptionally talented hacker bragging about being the best console man around. Briana Middleton stars opposite Turner as Molly, delivering an unimpressed response to Case’s boasts in the preview.

Roland praised Turner’s dedication to capturing the atypical protagonist, highlighting that the character operates outside traditional hero archetypes. Everyone came with a deep love of the source material, Roland explained, detailing how Turner leaned into playing an orphan and survivor driven by instinct and desperation rather than family ties.

The narrative follows Case and Molly as they team up for a high-stakes heist against a powerful corporate dynasty harboring untold secrets. Alongside Turner and Middleton, the ensemble cast features Mark Strong as Armitage, alongside Joseph Lee, Peter Sarsgaard, and Clémence Poésy.

A Long Road From 1984 to the Screen

Bringing William Gibson’s pioneering 1984 novel to television has been a decades-long pursuit in Hollywood. Previous attempts to adapt the landmark cyberpunk text fizzled out, including a film effort that stalled back in 2015. Director Vincenzo Natali was initially attached to a film version in 2010, completing a script with Gibson’s input by 2013 before ultimately walking away from the project two years later.

Now, creative control rests with Graham Roland, known for creating Dark Winds and working on Fringe, alongside director J.D. Dillard, whose sci-fi credentials include episodes of The Twilight Zone and Utopia. Dillard directed the first three episodes of the series, setting the visual tone for the grim, neon-lit digital underworld.

Apple gave the adaptation a series order in 2024, moving quickly from development to production. Following the two-episode series premiere on January 22, 2027, new episodes will drop weekly on Fridays until the finale on March 19, 2027.
