Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu landed in the US on Monday ahead of talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington, where they are expected to discuss the situation with Iran, among several other issues, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed. Netanyahu and Trump both arrived at the same time at Joint Base Andrews, a US military facility located in Maryland, near Washington, DC. However, they did not meet. Netanyahu flew out from Nevatim Air Base instead of Ben-Gurion Airport, where he typically departs for state visits, Israeli media reported. This week’s funeral of US Sen. Lindsey Graham provided an opportunity for a sit-down, even though it will be secondary to the larger event, and U.S. President Donald Trump hosts Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Tuesday, with wars in Iran and Ukraine at critical stages and his ties with both leaders markedly different. Lindsey Graham passed away on July 12 after a brief and sudden illness.
This week’s trip marks Netanyahu’s seventh visit to the US since Trump returned to power — more than any other world leader. Netanyahu stated: This will be the eighth meeting between the two leaders since Trump's election for a second term. More than any other international leader. This is a great privilege, but it is also a great responsibility.
Strained Alliances and Diverging War Aims Over Iran

than the American president.
Netanyahu looking for Trump’s help for October re-election bid. Netanyahu arrives amid growing White House frustration over the lack of progress toward a broader settlement in the Iran conflict and criticism from some of Trump’s supporters who oppose deeper U.S. involvement in the Middle East. Netanyahu reluctantly halted airstrikes on Iran after the ceasefire announcement, but within hours, he dramatically escalated attacks on Iran’s proxy, Hezbollah, in Lebanon. In just 10 minutes, Israeli jets bombed 100 targets across the country, killing more than 300 people, many of them civilians. He insisted that Lebanon was not part of the two-week truce, despite Iran and Pakistan saying it was – although US officials backed Netanyahu’s claim. Israel continued its attacks in Lebanon even when the Iranian and US teams were meeting in Pakistan, despite Trump asking Netanyahu to scale back the military operation.
