Bitcoin held steady near $64,500 on Wednesday as markets weighed a potential Federal Reserve interest rate hike and escalating Middle East tensions. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh faces a critical rate decision amid stubborn inflation, while institutional spot Bitcoin outflows extended to four straight sessions.
Cryptocurrency markets navigated a tense macroeconomic landscape on Wednesday, with Bitcoin trading above 64,500 dollars following a volatile session. The leading digital asset demonstrated underlying resilience despite sharp losses in tech and artificial intelligence stocks earlier in the week, but investors remained cautious ahead of the central bank’s rate decision.
Federal Reserve Rate Decision and Market Odds
It is decision day at the Federal Reserve, where policymakers are weighing whether to alter benchmark interest rates in the face of stubborn inflation. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, who took over the central bank leadership two months ago, has avoided signaling his exact preference for Wednesday’s outcome.

However, testimony before lawmakers earlier this month underscored the committee’s determination to bring price pressures under control. Warsh told the Senate Banking Committee that the central bank holds no patience for persistently elevated inflation.
My colleagues and I recognize that high inflation has been an undue burden on American households and businesses, The members of our committee have no tolerance for persistently elevated inflation and we share a resolute commitment to restore price stability. Kevin Warsh, Federal Reserve Chairman
While the baseline expectation remains that the central bank will hold the federal funds rate steady within the 3.5-3.75% target range where it has remained since January 2026, bond traders are seriously pricing in the possibility of a surprise tightening. At the same time, traders are pricing in a roughly 30%-plus chance of a 25-basis-point rate hike.
Institutional Outflows and Geopolitical Pressures
Digital asset markets faced headwinds not only from monetary policy uncertainty but also from declining institutional demand.

Simultaneously, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East exacerbated risk aversion. Following a sudden missile strike by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeting American forces in the region and subsequent coalition strikes in Iraq, energy supply concerns pushed oil prices higher. Higher energy costs renewed inflationary anxieties, creating an environment that historically pressures high-risk assets like cryptocurrencies.
Altcoin Performance and Broader Market Resilience
Despite macroeconomic and geopolitical pressures, major alternative coins posted modest gains. Ethereum edged up 0.12% to trade at 1,918.32 dollars, while Ripple climbed 2.63% to 1.09 dollars. Cardano advanced 4.5%, and Dogecoin posted a marginal 0.3% increase, even as Solana dipped 0.20% to 73.95 dollars.
Broader financial markets also contended with sector-specific corrections, particularly in artificial intelligence and semiconductor equities. Asian markets experienced notable pullbacks, including a roughly 6% drop in South Korea’s Kospi index driven by heavy selling in AI chip shares. Analysts noted that while Bitcoin has increasingly correlated with global equity trends over the past year, its recent pullback remained less severe than the steep valuations adjustments seen across high-flying tech sectors.
