A comfortable lifestyle is attainable for couples on a budget of 1,000 euros per month in 14 countries worldwide, according to a recent report. The study identifies destinations where couples can cover expenses like rent, groceries, transportation, and entertainment without significant financial strain.

Affordable Living Around the Globe

International Living magazine’s report notes that while this budget doesn’t allow for luxury, it provides a comfortable lifestyle without sacrificing basic pleasures. Five of the identified locations are in Europe, four in Central and South America, and five in Asia.

Europe’s Budget-Friendly Options

Bulgaria emerges as the most affordable European option, with cities like Plovdiv and Varna recommended over the capital, Sofia. A one-bedroom apartment in these cities averages €380 per month, with utilities costing around €87 and mobile phone service at €15. Monthly groceries for two are estimated at €187, and a meal for two costs approximately €15.

Latvia also offers affordable living in smaller towns like Kuldiga and Cēsis, where one-bedroom apartments cost around €218 per month. Groceries for two are estimated at €245, and utilities average €155.

Lithuania attracts foreigners with its infrastructure, cultural heritage, and access to nature. Apartments in cities like Šiauliai or Panevėžys cost about €435 per month, while rents in Vilnius reach €760. Monthly groceries for two average €305, with utilities at €125 and mobile phone service at €22.

Romania, outside of Bucharest, provides a low cost of living in towns like Craiova and Sibiu. Renting a one-bedroom apartment in these locations costs around €335, compared to €480 in Bucharest. Groceries for two cost approximately €174 per month, utilities average €175, and basic mobile phone plans are around €17.
