Congress leader Pawan Khera has filed a petition in the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered by Assam police following allegations concerning the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and claims of multiple passports.
Pawan Khera Seeks Bail in Assam Case
The First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Guwahati Crime Branch Police Station under Sections 175 (false statement in connection with an election), 35, 36, 318 (Cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable will, security etc.), 337 (Forgery of record of Court or of public register, etc.), 340 (Forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine), 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 356 (Defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Khera’s petition requests release on bail should he be arrested. He claims that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the wife of the Assam Chief Minister, possesses three passports.
Assam police reportedly visited Khera’s residence in both Delhi and Hyderabad, Telangana, where he also has a residence, according to reports. Khera serves as the Chairman of the Media & Publicity Department for the Congress party and is a member of the Congress Working Committee.
The case, titled Pawan Khera v/s The State of Telangana, is identified as CRLP 5285/2026 and is currently under scrutiny by the High Court, as per the court’s website.
