Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has emphasized the importance of continued engagement with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as Islamabad prepares to host a second round of Iran-United States talks.

  • Pakistan is facilitating high-stakes mediation between Tehran and Washington.
  • U.S. Vice President JD Vance will lead a high-level delegation for the second round of talks in Islamabad.
  • International recognition for Pakistan’s role has come from over ten countries, including Saudi Arabia, China, and Turkey.

During a conversation on Monday, Dar stressed the need for dialogue at the earliest opportunity to resolve pending issues and promote regional peace and stability. The Iranian government confirmed that the discussions covered regional developments and ceasefire-related issues.

The diplomatic efforts have garnered international support, including praise from Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. In a telephone call with Dar, Wong commended Pakistan’s “constructive role” and continued commitment to promoting diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington.

Dar briefed the Australian Foreign Minister on the “Islamabad Talks” held on April 11–12. Both leaders expressed concern over the broader implications of current conflicts on the global economy, particularly for developing nations.

Pakistan has positioned itself as an “honest broker” amid the escalating Iran-US-Israel crisis. Senior officials from more than ten countries—including the US, Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Uzbekistan, and Egypt—have acknowledged Dar’s leadership in facilitating ceasefire negotiations.

While the first round of negotiations highlighted deep disagreements regarding maritime security, regional influence, and sanctions, officials indicate that communication channels remain open.

The upcoming second round of talks in Islamabad will see the arrival of a high-level U.S. delegation led by Vice President JD Vance.
