Fr. John (Jack) O’Donnell, formerly of the Diocese of Duluth, USA, has died peacefully at Kilcara Nursing Home in Duagh, Ireland, on March 19, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
Obituary
Fr. O’Donnell was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Julia, his brother Dan and wife Bridie, sisters Mary Fitzgerald and husband Jack, sister Kathy Murphy, and nephew John Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his brother Tom and wife Anne, brother-in-law Tony Murphy of Newbridge, and nephews Kevin, Paul, Thomas, Niall, Dermot, and Brian. He is also survived by nieces Maria, Annette, Niamh, and Marie, their spouses and partners, as well as grandnephews, grandnieces, extended family, Bishop Ray Browne, fellow clergy, neighbors, and a wide circle of friends and parishioners.
Reposing will take place at Harnett’s Funeral Home, The Square, Abbeyfeale (V94 AK44) on Monday, March 23rd, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 24th, at 12:00 p.m. in St. Brigid’s Church, Duagh, followed by interment in Springmount Cemetery, Duagh.
The Requiem Mass will be live streamed on https://www.dioceseofkerry.ie/parish/duagh.
Family flowers only are requested. Donations, if desired, may be made to Brú Columbanus http://www.brucolumbanus.com. A donation box will also be available at the funeral home.
