Mary Ellen (Maura), a retired NT and former resident of Newtown, Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, passed away on April 18, 2026, at Stella Maris Nursing Home in Cummer, Tuam. She was in her ninety-eighth year.
She is deeply mourned by her daughter, Anne (Galway), and her sons, Fr. David (Weybridge, Surrey), Peter, and Robert (Galway). She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and a wide circle of family and friends.
Maura is predeceased by her husband, Thomas (Tom), and her siblings Patrick, Michael, and Robert of Carlow, as well as Jane of Tipperary.
Funeral Arrangements for Mary Ellen (Maura)
Maura will lie in repose on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at ‘Aras Naofa’ within the grounds of the Church of St. Oliver Plunkett, Renmore, from 5:30 p.m. Removal to the church will take place at 7:00 p.m. (H91 PX95).
Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 12 noon. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in the new cemetery, Bohermore.

The family has requested that the house remain strictly private. An online book of condolence has been established for those wishing to share memories or messages of sympathy.
