Pakistan and Iran have affirmed their commitment to ongoing diplomatic efforts, with Iran clarifying its position regarding recent media reports concerning peace talks and praising Pakistan’s mediation role. These developments come as backchannel talks between the two countries and the United States reportedly edge toward a breakthrough.

Iran Clarifies Position on Peace Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has stated that Tehran seeks a “conclusive, lasting” end to conflict, according to CGTN. Recent reports in US media were described as misrepresenting Iran’s position on peace talks, with Iranian officials asserting they never refused to go to Islamabad.

Pakistan’s Mediation Praised

Pakistan’s role as a mediator has been positively acknowledged by Iran. Pakistan Today reported that Iran praised Pakistan’s mediation as talks with the US progress. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has expressed his appreciation to Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian for clarifying Iran’s stance regarding recent media coverage.

Appreciation from Pakistani Officials

Both Deputy Prime Minister Dar and The Nation (Pakistan) reported Dar’s appreciation for Amir-Abdollahian’s comments regarding Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue. Radio Pakistan also reported on Dar’s appreciation of the Iranian Foreign Minister’s clarification.
