A limited fire broke out near the U.S. consulate in Dubai on Tuesday following a drone strike, authorities said. No injuries were reported and the fire was quickly extinguished.
Drone Strike Near US Consulate in Dubai
Dubai authorities confirmed the fire resulting from a drone-related incident near the US Consulate was successfully contained. Emergency teams responded immediately, and the fire was fully extinguished within approximately 45 minutes, according to the Dubai media office.
A U.S. official and Dubai’s government media office stated that a drone struck the parking lot of the consulate. Video footage shared on social media showed black smoke rising near the consulate.
Iran’s state broadcaster, IRIB, reported that an Iranian drone had hit the US consulate in Dubai.
The incident occurred as the U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia was struck by two drones on Monday, resulting in a limited fire and minor material damage. The Saudi ministry of defense reported the attack. The embassy has urged Americans in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran to shelter in place.
The U.S. embassy in Kuwait also announced Tuesday that it would be closed until further notice.
The State Department is working to help Americans in the Middle East leave the region. Officials are identifying charter and military flight options, as well as working with airlines to increase seat availability. In some instances, flights en route to the Middle East have been forced to turn around due to airspace closures.
