A South America correspondent has shared her resolutions for the new year, focusing on gratitude and embracing a more personal pace of life. Ione Wells reflected on a year of reporting from regions impacted by tragedy and expressed hope for brighter days while urging continued attention to global hardships.
Gratitude Amidst Tragedy
Wells stated one of her resolutions is to approach difficult experiences with more conscious gratitude. Over the past year, her reporting took her to South America, the Middle East, and the US, where she covered stories marked by tragedy, including families impacted by gang violence and the devastation of war.
She expressed hope for safer and brighter days for those living through these challenging realities, and also encouraged others not to overlook or take for granted the more ordinary aspects of their own lives.
Embracing ‘Ritmo Próprio’
Another resolution, Wells shared, is to embrace “ritmo próprio,” a Latin American concept meaning to move at one’s own rhythm. This involves accelerating when inspired, slowing down when necessary, and pursuing personal goals without fear of judgment, while always considering the impact on others.
