Eleven people have been arrested in connection with the mass killings in Bekkersdal, leaving the West Rand community deeply shaken. Nine people were fatally shot Sunday when assailants opened fire inside the Kwanoxolo Tavern and continued shooting in the surrounding streets.
Bekkersdal Mass Shooting: Arrests Made
Gauteng police confirmed the arrests took place at a residence believed to be harboring illegal miners. The motive for the shooting remains unknown.
Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Fred Kekana provided an update Wednesday at the Westonaria Police Station, stating the operation yielded significant evidence.
Authorities found multiple firearms in the possession of the suspects.
