Production of the first KAPLAN Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) has entered its final phase, according to FNSS, with vehicle testing planned to begin in the first half of 2026. The program is the result of a contract signed in February 2024 between PT Pindad and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense to provide the Indonesian Army with a 30-ton-class tracked APC.
KAPLAN APC Development and Production
FNSS and PT Pindad finalized the KAPLAN APC Development and Production Agreement, establishing a joint development and production model. The KAPLAN APC will be a new addition to FNSS’s family of tracked armoured vehicles, designed for evolving battlefield conditions with an emphasis on ballistic and mine protection, and integrated firepower.
The vehicle is designed to transport 13 personnel, including the driver, commander, and gunner, and is capable of operating in diverse terrains and weather conditions. It features an open-architecture electronic infrastructure, allowing for integration of systems like a Battlefield Management System and a 360-degree situational awareness capability with day and night vision.
The KAPLAN APC is being developed as a modular platform, capable of integrating both manned and unmanned turret systems. Armament options include 30 mm and 35 mm cannons, 120 mm mortars, and anti-tank guided missile systems, allowing for configuration across a range of missions including mechanized infantry, reconnaissance, command and control, and medical evacuation.
Built on a new-generation tracked armoured combat vehicle platform, the vehicle offers a power-to-weight ratio of at least 23 hp/ton, depending on configuration. It is equipped with an automatic transmission and designed to operate alongside modern main battle tanks. The design incorporates extensive commonality with Indonesia’s KAPLAN MT and shared subsystems with the Turkish Naval Forces’ Marine Assault Vehicle (MSV) to support logistical efficiency and lifecycle cost management.
The second vehicle will be produced in Indonesia, with deliveries scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
