Father Albertus Bagus Laksana has been appointed as the new Provincial of the Indonesian Province of the Society of Jesus, effective July 27, 2026. The appointment was made by Father General Arturo Sosa.

Born in 1972, Fr. Bagus entered the Society of Jesus in 1992 and was ordained to the priesthood in 2003. He completed his Tertianship in 2014 at St. Stanislaus College in Girisonta and pronounced his Final Vows in February 2016.

Fr. Bagus is a specialist in interfaith and comparative theological discourse. He earned his licentiate at the Weston Jesuit School of Theology in 2005 and his PhD in Comparative Theology from Boston College in 2011.

He also served as a Visiting Scholar and Postdoctoral Fellow at Loyola Marymount University in California. From 2014 to 2021, he was Dean, and then President, of The Wedabhakti Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Yogyakarta.

Since 2018, he has served as animator of the Intellectual Apostolate and Research for the Indonesian Jesuit Province. In 2022, he was appointed President of Sanata Dharma University, where he has focused on strengthening academic excellence, service to humanity, and the promotion of social justice.
