Questions are being raised about whether former President Donald Trump will be compelled to testify regarding his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, as scrutiny of newly released documents continues. The debate comes as hearings focus on testimony from prominent Democrats, with some arguing for reciprocal depositions.
Trump’s Connection to Epstein Documents
Trump is mentioned thousands of times in the unredacted Epstein documents. He has repeatedly stated he had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes, despite previously considering Epstein a friend.
Republicans contend that Trump has already addressed many questions about Epstein and claims to have been “totally exonerated” by the release of the files.
The released documents include a list compiled by the FBI last year of allegations made against Trump by callers to its National Threat Operation Center tip line. The list contains numerous allegations of sexual abuse made against Trump, Epstein, and other high-profile figures, though many appear to be unverified and lack supporting evidence.
US media reports indicate that multiple witness interviews are missing from the released files, including those relating to a woman who accused Trump of sexual assault. Democrats who have reviewed the unredacted files allege three interviews with the accuser have been withheld.
The Justice Department has denied any wrongdoing and stated it is reviewing the withheld documents, promising to publish any found to have been improperly removed.
