Indonesia’s Health Ministry has dispatched a second group of 366 healthcare professionals to Aceh Province to aid residents affected by recent floods and landslides.

Aceh Disaster Response: Second Wave of Medical Volunteers

The volunteers will provide medical treatment and healthcare services from January 5 to 18, 2026, according to Asnawi Abdullah, Head of the Health Policy Development Agency (BKPK). The deployment aims to ensure optimal health service delivery in hospitals, public health centers, shelters, and affected areas.

This second deployment follows an initial assessment of conditions on the ground after the first batch of volunteers was sent on December 20, 2025. Abdullah stated that additional volunteers will be deployed if the need arises.

Healthcare support will be focused on Aceh Tamiang, East Aceh, Bireuen, Pidie Jaya, Gayo Lues, Bener Meriah, Central Aceh, and North Aceh, areas identified as requiring significant medical assistance.

The volunteers represent a range of medical specialties, including opticians, neurologists, pediatricians, general practitioners, radiologists, environmental health experts, nutritionists, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

Abdullah expressed hope that the recovery of healthcare services will align with broader social and economic recovery efforts, including the construction of temporary housing recently inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto. He hopes those affected by the disaster can return to normal life and resume their daily routines.

Dr. Yuli Farianti, Director General for Health Human Resources, commended the dedication of the volunteer healthcare workers. The ministry began dispatching medical personnel to the affected areas on the third day after the disaster, initially through direct hospital deployments.
