Indonesia’s export performance continues to show a positive trend despite ongoing global geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, according to Minister of Trade Budi Santoso.

Indonesia Exports Show Resilience Amid Global Uncertainty

The recent escalation of conflicts involving Israel, the United States, and Iran is creating pressure on global trade, including Indonesia’s exports, alongside rising protectionist policies in various countries. Despite these challenges, Budi stated that Indonesia’s export performance demonstrates significant resilience.

Indonesia’s export value for January–February 2026 reached US$44.32 billion, a 2.19% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency. Budi described this as a signal that global market opportunities for Indonesian products remain robust.

The government remains cautious about the ongoing impact of geopolitical conflicts, particularly on supply chain stability and market demand. The Middle East currently accounts for around 3.49% of Indonesia’s total exports, or approximately US$9.87 billion, making it a priority to safeguard this trade from disruption.

The Ministry of Trade is implementing measures to expand and diversify export markets to reduce reliance on specific regions. This strategy, while not new, has become increasingly relevant given the potential for crises to quickly reshape trade dynamics, as seen during the Covid-19 pandemic when supply chain disruptions created opportunities for other countries.

The government is also working to optimize Indonesia’s trade agreements to reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers and strengthen the competitiveness of national products abroad. Budi emphasized that new opportunities emerge during global disruptions, and the key is to capitalize on them quickly.

With a combined strategy of market diversification and trade cooperation optimization, the government remains optimistic that Indonesia’s export performance can be sustained and expanded, even amid a volatile global landscape.
