Determining the Date of Eid al-Fitr
The meeting will be held at the H.M. Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs Office in Jakarta, beginning at 4:00 PM Western Indonesian Time. Preparations for the isbat meeting have been carried out in accordance with established procedures, covering both substantive and technical aspects, according to the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Abu Rokhmad.
“The meeting will be held based on verified hisab data and rukyat results, and through a mechanism that is open to the public,” Rokhmad stated in an official release on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Attendees will include astronomy experts from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), planetariums, observatories, representatives of Islamic community organizations, and other relevant agencies. The broad representation is intended to ensure the decision carries strong religious legitimacy.
The Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Arsad Hidayat, stated that technical preparations are ongoing, including coordinating the monitoring of rukyatul hilal (crescent sighting) at various locations throughout Indonesia. The public is asked to await the official government announcement following the completion of all sessions.
The isbat session will begin with a seminar on the position of the crescent moon, followed by verification of rukyatul hilal reports from across the country. The Minister of Religious Affairs will then make the official announcement determining 1 Shawwal 1447 AH.
