Tyres on three Auckland ambulances deliberately slashed

Three ambulances had their tires slashed in Auckland’s Manukau over the weekend, prompting disappointment from St John and a police investigation.

Ambulance Vandalism Investigated

Counties Manukau police are investigating the wilful damage, believing the offenders entered the gated yard of St John’s Manukau Station on Saturday night, according to Senior Sergeant Roelof Burger.

“While in the yard the offenders have punctured five tyres on three vehicles using a sharp object, rendering them inoperable,” Burger said. Police expressed their disappointment with the “irresponsible behaviour,” noting that such actions can put lives at risk and impact St John’s ability to respond to emergencies.

St John Auckland District Operations Manager Andy Everiss said the vandalism was a “disappointing” and “unwarranted attack” on vital vehicles used to serve the community.

“These actions show great disrespect to our people, who rely on these vehicles to do lifesaving work every day,” Everiss said.

St John confirmed the incident did not severely impact their emergency response capabilities.

Police are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage from the Plunket Avenue and Wiri Station Rd areas. Information can be provided online, by calling 105, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.
