Iran Attacks Day 39: US-Israel Conflict Updates

President Donald Trump has warned of the “complete demolition” of key Iranian infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened by a looming deadline, while Iran dismissed the threats as “delusional.” The escalating conflict includes intensified US-Israeli attacks across Iran targeting civilian areas, alongside Iranian missile and drone strikes in the Gulf.

US Ultimatum and Iranian Response

Trump issued a deadline threatening the destruction of Iran’s power plants and bridges if Tehran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8pm Washington time on Tuesday (00:00 GMT). Experts note that targeting civilian infrastructure constitutes a war crime. Iran rejected a proposal for a temporary ceasefire, arguing it would allow the US and Israel to regroup for further attacks, and instead presented a 10-point proposal calling for a comprehensive and permanent end to the war.

Tehran also demanded the lifting of longstanding sanctions, a compromise on uranium enrichment, and a new order in the Strait of Hormuz. A third Turkish-owned ship has passed through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Turkiye’s Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu. South Korea will send five ships to the Saudi Red Sea port of Yanbu to establish alternative oil supply routes.

Attacks Intensify Across the Region

In Iran, the Mehr news agency reported an attack on Kharg Island, a major oil hub. A projectile struck a synagogue in central Tehran, destroying it, according to local media. Israel’s military said it carried out strikes on three airports in Tehran, targeting Iranian planes and helicopters, and also struck Iran’s largest petrochemical complex and a compound in Shiraz.

The chief of the United Nations nuclear watchdog warned that attacks near Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant “pose a very real danger to nuclear safety and must stop.” Iranian officials reported the killing of the intelligence chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Major General Majid Khademi, in an Israeli strike. Two units producing electricity for the South Pars gasfield were also targeted, which Iranian officials called a “huge escalation.” An Israeli strike on the Yahya Abad railway bridge in Kashan killed two people.

US-Israeli air attacks on residential areas in Alborz province killed 18 people, including two children, and nine people were killed in an attack on a residential neighbourhood in Shahriar city, according to local media.

Gulf Region Under Fire

In Kuwait, an Iranian drone strike on the Ali Al Salem Air Base wounded 15 Americans. Saudi Arabia reported intercepting at least 18 drones and up to seven ballistic missiles over its Eastern Province, with debris falling near critical energy facilities. Bahrain closed a key bridge linking it to Saudi Arabia indefinitely due to fears of attacks. The United Arab Emirates reported intercepting incoming missiles and drones originating from Iran.

Developments in the US and Israel

Trump and senior US officials detailed the high-risk mission to rescue two airmen whose fighter was shot down over Iran, involving over 170 aircraft and hundreds of soldiers. The president also lashed out at a journalist reporting on the rescue operation, threatening jail time. An Iranian missile attack on a residential building in Haifa, Israel, killed at least four people.

Expanding Conflict in Lebanon and Iraq

Israel’s bombardment and invasion of Lebanon are deepening fissures within the country, with attacks now striking beyond predominantly Shia Muslim areas. Two Israeli air attacks on southern Lebanon killed five people and injured several. Two US-made bombs struck a residential building in Beirut, killing three people, prompting the UN to report over 1.1 million displaced people in Lebanon. A drone from Iran killed a couple in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq when it crashed into their home, and two blasts were heard near Erbil’s airport.

The US military’s Central Command stated its forces have attacked more than 13,000 Iranian targets.
