U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Iran is “begging to make a deal” a day after Tehran dismissed his 15-point ceasefire plan, stating he is not the one seeking negotiations.
Iran-US Tensions Escalate
Earlier, Trump urged Tehran to “get serious soon” about a deal to end the ongoing conflict. Iran has been impeding the passage of ships it believes are connected to the U.S. and Israeli war efforts through the Strait of Hormuz, though some vessels are still being allowed to pass.
Jasem Mohamed al-Budaiwi, representing the Gulf Cooperation Council, reported that Iran is charging fees for safe passage through the strait. Simultaneously, the U.S. is preparing for the potential deployment of thousands of troops to Iran.
The conflict has resulted in over 1900 deaths in Iran and nearly 1100 in Lebanon. Dozens more have been killed in Israel and other regional locations. Thirteen U.S. military members have also died, and millions have been displaced in both Lebanon and Iran.
