Iran stated that no allies have offered military support against Israel and the US, but affirmed its capability to defend itself in the ongoing conflict. The country maintains it is prepared to fight the war independently.

Iran Confirms No Military Aid Offers From Allies

Iranian ambassador to South Africa, Mansour Shakib Mehr, confirmed during a media briefing that no country has offered assistance in its conflict with Israel and the US. This briefing addressed the recent deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials.

Mehr described the deaths of approximately 170 children from an elementary school in Minab, southern Iran, as a “dangerous and unprecedented violation of international norms” and a breach of the United Nations charter, attributing the deaths to attacks by Israeli and US troops.

When questioned about potential military assistance from allies such as Russia, China, or North Korea, the ambassador stated that no offers have been made, but any such offers would be considered. “We have not asked any of the countries for assistance. We believe that we can defend ourselves,” Mehr said.

He also denied allegations that Iran funds the African National Congress (ANC) or South Africa’s genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague. “These rumours of funding the ANC were raised by the same parties in South Africa. They want to demonise what South Africa is doing at the ICJ,” Mehr stated, adding that the ICJ case was initiated by the South African government, and Iran is grateful for the action.

Rumours of Iran Funding ANC and ICJ Case Denied

Mehr highlighted the shared interests between Iran and South Africa in international affairs, noting their membership in BRICS and the Non-Aligned Movement. He expressed expectations that all countries would promote peace and pressure the US to cease its attacks, stating, “we have been betrayed once again in these negotiations.”

Regarding retaliatory attacks on US military bases in neighboring Middle Eastern countries, Mehr asserted Iran’s right to strike locations from which it was attacked, clarifying, “we are not attacking our neighbours’ soils, we retaliate to the US military bases and places of their hide out.”

Iran Not Initiator of War – Ambassador

The ambassador reiterated that Iran did not initiate the war, emphasizing a policy of “good neighbourliness and regional stability.” He clarified that the retaliation was directed at the “Zionist regime and US,” respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries. “We targeted the US military bases because they are legitimate targets, not our neighbour. We respect the sovereignty of our neighbours,” he said.

He noted a friendly telephone conversation between Iranian and Qatari ministers regarding the war situation, despite the US base in Qatar also being attacked. Mehr also cited US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that America entered the war on behalf of Israel, asserting, “There is never any so-called Iranian threat to the US at all.”

Never a Threat to US – Iran

Iran has requested the evacuation of its nationals from the war zone, with the South African department of international relations and cooperation taking steps to ensure their safety. Mehr also suggested the US attacks on Iran may be an attempt to cover up the Epstein files.

He stated Iran has maintained a high level of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, with ongoing inspections of its nuclear facilities until the recent military aggression last June. He added that the attacks occurred amidst US-initiated talks.
