From October 16th to 18th, planned military exercises of the 19th Combat Support Battalion of the 1st Riga Brigade of the National Guard will take place in Ropaži and Bauska regions, eng.lsm.lv reported. Residents in these areas can expect to see increased troop movements, hear the sounds of training ammunition, and spot drones overhead during the multi-day deployment.
Readiness Drills Target Ropaži and Bauska Terrains
The upcoming drills focus heavily on testing how well units can function away from their usual operating bases. Military planners designed the schedule to push guardsmen into unfamiliar environments across two distinct municipalities. According to a release from the National Armed Forces (NBS), the aim of the training is to improve the tactical and combat skills of the National Guardsmen, maintaining the unit in a high state of readiness to respond to any situation.
The operations span several specific locations over the three-day window. Activities are set for the Garkalne area of Ropaži municipality alongside Bauska municipality near the Vecumnieki and Zvirgzde quarries. Operations will shift specifically to the Cekule area within Ropaži municipality from October 17 to 18.
Public Safety and Environmental Cleanup Commitments
Local authorities emphasize that the maneuvers pose no actual danger to the public despite the expected sensory disruptions. While the use of drones and blank training rounds will generate noticeable noise, officials assure communities that human life and health remain completely secure.
Civilian traffic on nearby roads may experience temporary military transport movements, though the armed forces stress this warrants no public alarm. Military authorities have pledged to fully restore and clean up all utilized sectors once the exercises conclude.
