Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu in Chisinau on Friday to discuss strengthening bilateral ties, European integration, and resistance to Russian hybrid attacks.
Lithuania and Moldova Address Russian Interference
“Moldova, like Lithuania, is the target of deliberate Russian disinformation and hybrid attacks,” Budrys said in a statement released by the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry. He stated the Kremlin’s primary objective is to undermine Moldova’s European aspirations and weaken public support for EU membership, emphasizing the need to counter these narratives.
Budrys highlighted Moldova’s success in repelling hybrid attacks and hostile attempts to influence democratic elections in 2024 and 2025. He added that sharing lessons learned and best practices between Lithuania and Moldova will contribute to a more resilient and secure Europe.
The minister affirmed Lithuania’s support for Moldova’s pursuit of European integration and pledged continued assistance in ensuring the country’s security and prosperity.
The meeting also addressed support for Ukraine and the importance of strengthening Moldova’s democratic institutions and continuing justice system reforms.
During his visit, Budrys is also scheduled to meet with Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi, and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov.
