The Lawyers’ Canteen at the Delhi High Court has temporarily suspended serving main course meals due to a shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. The canteen management issued a notice on March 11 informing patrons of the disruption and its impact on food service.
LPG Shortage Disrupts Service
According to the notice, the unavailability of LPG cylinders prevents the canteen from preparing cooked meals. The management stated they currently have no information regarding when the gas supply will be restored, but will resume main course preparation as soon as it becomes available.
However, the canteen continues to offer food items that do not require cooking, including sandwiches, salads, fruit chaats, and other refreshments.
Sandeep Sharma of the Lawyers’ Canteen signed the notice, apologizing for the inconvenience caused to advocates and court staff and requesting their understanding.
The LPG cylinder shortage is reportedly linked to disruptions in supply chains stemming from ongoing tensions and conflicts in West Asia involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, impacting fuel logistics in parts of India. The Central Government invoked the Essential Commodities Act yesterday to regulate natural gas supply in response to the West Asia crisis and the blockade at the Hormuz Strait.
