A Malaysian nurse’s compassionate care for an elderly patient has resonated widely after a video of the act went viral, earning her recognition from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM).

Nurse Recognized for Empathetic Care

Nur Deena Nadzhiefa was seen tenderly feeding an elderly Indian man, an act that quickly gained public attention and led to formal acknowledgement from KKM.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad met with Nur Deena on Saturday during the inauguration of the new Seberang Jaya Hospital building.

Dr. Dzulkefly described the video as deeply moving and representative of high standards within the nursing profession. “While the award I presented is modest in comparison, it cannot match the value of the empathy demonstrated by Deena,” he wrote on Facebook. “She has shown that the most powerful medicine in a hospital is not only pills or injections, but treatment delivered with genuine compassion.”

The minister also commended Nur Deena for embodying the spirit of Malaysia through her daily work, and expressed hope that her actions would inspire healthcare professionals and the broader community.

“This recognition is a symbol of appreciation for humanitarian values, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI and KKM’s commitment to fostering a healthcare culture that is both caring and empathetic,” he added.
