Marcos seeks stronger partnership between national, local governments

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday called for increased cooperation between national and local governments to address the challenges facing Filipinos amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Collaboration Needed to Address Middle East Tensions

Marcos emphasized the vital role of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VMLP) in fostering effective local legislation through collaboration with national, local, and international stakeholders. He stated this collaboration is crucial as the country navigates the economic and security challenges stemming from the war sparked by the United States and Israel against Iran.

“I hope you remain steadfast and persistent in your service, especially now that the country is facing many crises due to the tensions occurring in the Middle East,” Marcos said in Filipino. “Let us continue to guide and support our citizens until we overcome these challenges together,” he added.

The Presidential Communications Office also addressed recent speculation regarding Marcos’ health, stating he is “definitely in good health.” This statement followed social media posts claiming the president was “terminal” after he was absent from an event for repatriated overseas Filipino workers earlier in the day.

Marcos was diagnosed with diverticulitis in January, which led to weight loss.
