Metro Manila Floods: Red Rainfall Alert Issued Amid Heavy Deluges

Metro Manila and surrounding Philippine provinces faced severe flooding on Saturday, August 8, following relentless downpours triggered by the southwest monsoon, locally known as the Habagat. According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the persistent rains left several thoroughfares submerged in gutter-deep water.

Monsoon Rains Cause Widespread Flooding Across Metro Manila and Provinces

The intense weather system brought widespread disruption to the capital region and adjacent areas. GMA Network reported that various parts of the country experienced significant flooding due to the monsoon rains (“Iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa, binaha dahil sa ulan na dulot ng Habagat”). Concurrently, Tonite reported that the Habagat submerged multiple locations across Metro Manila and surrounding provinces (“Habagat pinalubog ilang lugar sa Metro Manila, mga probinsya”). Despite the rising waters, authorities confirmed that major transport routes remained open.

Severe Water Levels Recorded in Quezon City and Heavy Rainfall Alerts Raised

Bombo Radyo News documented extreme inundation in parts of the capital region, noting that Lagpas-taong baha, naitala sa Quezon City. To address the escalating weather hazards, ABS-CBN reported that a Red Level heavy rainfall alert was raised as floods swamped parts of Metro Manila and nearby areas (“Floods swamp parts of Metro Manila, nearby areas; Red Level heavy rainfall alert raised”).

MMDA Confirms Road Conditions Amid Gutter-Deep Floods

The MMDA reported that Gutter-deep ang tubig-baha sa ilang bahagi ng Metro Manila kasunod ng malakas na buhos ng ulang dulot ng Habagat ngayong Sabado, Aug. 8, ayon sa MMDA. Even with these challenging conditions, the agency noted that Passable pa rin sa lahat ng uri ng sasakyan ang mga kalsada.
