Stephen King Thriller in the Tall Grass Is Streaming on Netflix

The heart-pounding horror thriller In the Tall Grass is currently streaming on Netflix.

The 2019 film brings a terrifying premise to the screen, following two siblings—one of whom is pregnant—who enter a field of tall grass after hearing a young boy call for help, only to become separated and lost as they encounter ghosts and supernatural elements.

Production Realities and Real-World Labyrinths

The film adapts a novella written by Stephen King and his son Joe Hill. Director Vincenzo Natali considered the project a passion project from the very beginning, praising the authors in 2015 for transforming an innocent field in Kansas into something iconic and horrific.

Rather than relying solely on digital effects, the production filmed in real Miscanthus grass near Stratford, Ontario, and built a roadside church for the movie. In a 2019 interview with AIPT, Natali explained that the physical location was so disorienting that crew members had to carry whistles to help others find their way out when they got lost.

Patrick Wilson Replaced James Marsden During Casting Changes

Behind the scenes, the project underwent several casting changes before filming began. James Marsden was originally slated to play the lead role, but due to scheduling conflicts, horror veteran Patrick Wilson stepped into the part instead.

Before filming started, manga artist Shintaro Kago helped create the concept art for the movie adaptation, providing original designs that connected the Western horror production to Japanese art styles. While the film ultimately received mixed reviews from critics, it remains available for viewers to watch today.
