Montreal police have arrested a 16-year-old in Saskatchewan, the third suspect linked to a January 28 home invasion targeting a cryptocurrency investor. The teenager, apprehended following a Canada-wide warrant, faces charges including armed robbery and reckless discharge of a firearm during the violent incident in the city’s Sud-Ouest borough.
Arrest in Saskatchewan Follows January Home Invasion
The Montreal police (SPVM) confirmed the arrest of a 16-year-old suspect last week in Saskatchewan. The teenager was identified as the third individual taken into custody in connection with a home invasion that occurred on January 28 in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough. According to the police, the suspect was returned to Montreal earlier this week after appearing remotely before the Youth Chamber of the Court of Quebec and remains in detention.
The investigation into the incident, which targeted a residence known to be owned by a cryptocurrency investor, involved collaboration between the SPVM and the Saskatoon Police Service. Authorities have now brought charges against the teenager, including breaking and entering, armed robbery, and the reckless discharge of a firearm.
Details of the Violent Confrontation
The event took place around 7:30 p.m. last winter, when one of the alleged assailants approached the residence posing as a package delivery person. Once the occupants opened the door, the suspect and three accomplices forced their way inside.
During the struggle, at least one of the intruders was armed. According to preliminary information, a shot was fired during the commotion, which resulted in a projectile striking one of the suspects. A resident of the home also sustained a minor injury during the encounter. The suspects reportedly abandoned several pieces of evidence at the scene while attempting to flee the property.
Ongoing Investigation and Outstanding Suspects
This case has been a focus for investigators due to the target being an individual who has been a victim of similar intrusions in the past. While the arrest of the 16-year-old marks a significant development, the case remains open. Two other suspects were previously charged in May: 20-year-old Christopher Ethan Prince and another 17-year-old suspect.
Police are currently searching for a fourth suspect who remains at large.
