Nara Lokesh to Launch Tata Power’s ₹5,350 Crore Clean Energy Projects

The coalition government in Andhra Pradesh is pushing forward with its push to transform Rayalaseema into a renewable energy hub. According to an official release, IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh is scheduled to lay the foundation stones for two significant clean energy projects totaling 800 MW on July 30 at Pattikonda.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Projects in Anantapur and Kurnool

The upcoming developments are led by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) with a total capital outlay of ₹5,350 crore. The initiative splits into a 400-MW wind project based at Kanekal in the Anantapur district, carrying an investment of ₹3,500 crore, and a 400-MW solar power project located at Pattikonda in Kurnool, valued at ₹2,250 crore.

Land allocation for these sites is extensive. According to official reporting, the TPREL solar project at Pattikonda covers 2,700 acres, while the wind project at Kanekal utilizes 760 acres. During the construction phase, these installations will create jobs for roughly 4,000 people. Furthermore, the Kanekal wind installation will be developed with technical collaboration from Suzlon.

Grid Integration and Industrial Power Supply

Power evacuation is a critical element for large renewable installations. The TATA projects have successfully achieved 800 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity at the Anantapur-II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations. This infrastructure connection allows for the efficient routing of generated renewable power directly through the national transmission grid.

The primary goal behind this generation capacity is clear. State releases indicate that the clean energy produced will meet the power needs of large-scale industries setting up operations across the State. The investments form part of a broader strategy supported under the AP Integrated Clean Energy Policy–2024, joining other large-scale renewable projects by ReNew Power and SAEL that are already moving through various stages of execution in the region.

Local Community Impact and Agricultural Security

Beyond industrial supply, the regional projects offer direct economic benefits to local residents. The TPREL developments will provide long-term financial security and steady incomes for more than 1,100 agricultural families, anchoring clean energy growth directly to rural stability in Rayalaseema.
