Following the verdict delivered at Belfast Crown Court today, Natalie McNally’s brother, Declan McNally, paid tribute to his sister, stating, “Having you in our lives was the greatest joy we’ll ever have.” He added, “You would have been an amazing mother to baby Dean. We will love you forever and we hope you can now rest easy.”

The McNally family also expressed their gratitude to friends, family, and the public for their support, saying it was essential in helping them through this difficult time.

Details of the Case

The jury of six men and six women reached a verdict after two hours of deliberation, following 18 days of evidence presented in the high-profile case. McCullagh, 36, of Woodland Gardens, Lisburn, denied the murder.

Prosecutors argued that McCullagh had beaten, strangled, and stabbed Ms. McNally after discovering messages she had sent to other men. The trial heard Ms. McNally had been messaging other men, including a former boyfriend, during her relationship with McCullagh.

The prosecution presented evidence that McCullagh pre-recorded a six-hour gaming video and published it to his YouTube channel on the night of the murder, using the time to travel from Lisburn to Lurgan by bus to commit the crime and then take a taxi back home.

McCullagh claimed the evidence was an attempt to frame him, alleging a former boyfriend of Ms. McNally was responsible.

Reaction to the Verdict

Family members embraced, cheered, and wept when the verdict was announced. Mr. Justice Kinney thanked the jury for their “diligence” in handling the case and acknowledged the “very difficult and traumatic evidence” they had to review.

The judge stated he will set a minimum term of imprisonment on a separate date before McCullagh is eligible for release. McCullagh showed no visible reaction to the guilty verdict.

Outside the court, the McNally family was applauded by police and prosecution members. The lead investigating officer was hugged by family members, and prosecution barrister Charles MacCreanor received a loud round of applause.
