Latvian Radio 1 broadcasts a nightly news summary titled Ziņas vieglajā valodā (‘News in simple language’) at 21:00 to provide a simplified version of the day’s top stories.
The five-minute segments are designed to help listeners improve their Latvian comprehension and pronunciation skills. The format also serves to demonstrate that standard news reports are frequently over-written and excessively long.

Listeners can access the simplified news broadcasts via the Re:Play interface or through the Latvijas Radio app.
Examples of the broadcasts are made available on English-language pages the following day.
