Nomos Glashütte is expanding its metropolitan-inspired watch family with striking ice blue dials and significant mechanical updates. German product designer Mark Braun originally created the Metro collection in 2014, injecting vibrant color and urban style into the brand’s established Bauhaus design language. That inaugural Metro Date Power Reserve also introduced the proprietary Nomos Swing System, which established the brand as a serious in-house movement maker. Now, according to Monochrome Watches, the brand is releasing two new ice blue models: the Metro Neomatik 41 Update and an upgraded version of the iconic Metro Date Power Reserve.
Caliber DUW 4701 Upgrades the Metro Date Power Reserve
The updated Metro Date Power Reserve pairs its classic 37mm layout with a brand-new manual-winding movement. According to Hodinkee, Today, Nomos brings a new in-house caliber, DUW 4701, to power the new generation of Metro Date Power Reserve
. This next-generation movement brings quick-set date functionality to the watch. Yes, it almost seems amusing to be excited about a quick-set date in 2026, but for a watch like this, I’m glad to see it here
, Hodinkee noted regarding the update. The new DUW 4701 measures 32.1mm in diameter and 2.8mm thick, keeping the exact dimensions of the outgoing DUW 4401.
Alongside the quick-set date mechanism, the power reserve jumps from 42 hours in the previous iteration to 52 hours in the new calibre. Unlike the traditional Glashütte striping found on most older Nomos movements, the DUW 4701 features a sunray-striped decoration radiating from the regulating organ on the three-quarter plate. Turning the watch over reveals this decoration, alongside perlage, golden engravings, temperature-blued screws, and a skeletonised balance cock showing the bright blue Swing System hairspring. The dial faithfully maintains the asymmetric layout of the original reference 1101, featuring a tri-colour power reserve wheel (teal for full, light blue for neutral, and white for low) between 12 and 1 o’clock, the brand logo at 9 o’clock, and a small seconds sub-dial with a date aperture at 6 o’clock.
Metro Neomatik 41 Update Brings Ice Blue to the Larger Case
Originally introduced in 2021, the Metro Neomatik 41 Update represents the largest and most visually dynamic member of the collection. It utilizes the brand’s patented peripheral ring date complication, which frames the edge of the dial using two markers. For the new ice-blue variant, two teal markers frame the current date on the outer ring, complemented by small light-blue minute dots and grey Arabic numerals. White hour dots sit across the dial, with larger indicators at 12, 3, and 9 o’clock, while the recessed small seconds sub-dial features blue markings and a light-blue hand.
The polished stainless steel case measures between 40mm and 40.5mm in diameter with a 9.1mm thickness, incorporating wire lugs and a thin bezel that emphasizes the galvanized light blue metallic dial. Powering this larger model is the in-house automatic DUW 6101 movement. Measuring 32.5mm by 3.6mm, the Neomatik calibre includes an integrated date mechanism, stop seconds (hacking), and a 50-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement displays classic Glashütte ribbing on the three-quarter plate, perlage, golden engravings, and blue tempered screws. The watch is fitted on a grey woven textile strap, while the smaller Metro Date Power Reserve is paired with a black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan leather strap. Pricing for both new ice blue editions is to be confirmed by the manufacturer.
