Elderly Man Dies After Alleged Subway Shoving in Manhattan

A tragic incident on the New York City subway system has resulted in the death of an 83-year-old man, Richard Williams, following an alleged unprovoked attack. Williams succumbed to injuries sustained after being pushed onto the tracks at the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street station on March 8th. Bairon Hernandez, 34, was apprehended two days after the assault and faces charges including attempted murder, attempted assault, assault, and reckless endangerment. He then proceeded to target Williams, pushing him onto the tracks as well.

While the 30-year-old, identified as John Rodriguez, sustained minor injuries, Williams was left in critical condition and ultimately passed away on March 17th. Debbie Williams, the daughter of the deceased, expressed her profound grief and a desperate plea for justice. “The only reason I’m talking to anybody is because I just want the right thing to be done by this man. Debbie described her father as a vibrant and independent man who was enjoying his retirement on Roosevelt Island. He was enjoying his best life…going to the city independently at 83 years old, doing whatever he wanted to do,” she shared.

The emotional toll on the victims extends beyond physical injuries. Rodriguez, still shaken by the ordeal, expressed immense gratitude for his survival and shared his horror at witnessing Williams’ injuries. He described seeing blood on Williams’ head and desperately calling for help.

Hernandez, when questioned after his arrest, reportedly denied involvement in the attack, shaking his head and uttering “no” to reporters. Legal representation for Hernandez remains unclear at this time.
