One person was killed and another injured in a multi-vehicle crash this morning that has closed a stretch of Highway 11 in Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario.
Highway 11 Closed Following Fatal Crash
The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. today (March 7) on Highway 11 between Red Pine Road and Lookout Road. Five vehicles were directly involved, and three additional vehicles sustained damage in a secondary collision.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person sustained severe, but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Highway 11 is currently closed from Cochrane to Nipigon. Highway 655 is also closed from the Kidd mine road to Highway 11.
Commercial motor vehicles are not permitted access to Highway 11 north of North Bay. Passenger vehicles are still allowed to pass North Bay.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating the incident with the assistance of the OPP’s traffic incident management and enforcement (TIME) team and the Ontario coroner’s office.
