Christians in Pakistan face ongoing challenges ranging from deadly violence to systemic discrimination, with increasingly frequent accusations under the country’s blasphemy laws. Despite the dangers, believers are maintaining their faith, relying on their spiritual connection for strength and hope.
How are Christians Persecuted in Pakistan?
Most of Pakistan’s population is Muslim, making Christians a minority group. This minority status exposes Christians to a multitude of hardships. The use of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws is escalating, often weaponized against Christians and other religious minorities, even during unrelated disputes like land disagreements. An accusation alone can incite mob violence against the accused, their families, and the broader Christian community. Limited government protection and the growing influence of extremist Islamist groups exacerbate their vulnerability.
Christian women and girls are particularly at risk, facing abduction, rape, forced marriage, and conversion. Victims are sometimes as young as seven years old, and families often never see their loved ones again. Law enforcement and the courts frequently fail to provide adequate support to victims.

Why are Christians Persecuted in Pakistan?
Radical Islamist groups and some families view conversion from Islam as an act of betrayal, leading to severe repercussions for Christians who choose to follow Jesus. Many Christians descend from a historically marginalized caste of sweepers and continue to experience institutionalized discrimination.
Christians are often relegated to low-status or hazardous jobs, frequently labeled “Chura” (filthy). Some are trapped in bonded labor, such as working in brick kilns, where insurmountable debt prevents families from escaping poverty and reinforces their marginalization within Pakistani society.
Who is Particularly Vulnerable in Pakistan?
Most incidents affecting Christians occur in Punjab Province, where the majority of the country’s Christian population resides. However, Sindh Province is known as a hotspot for bonded labor, disproportionately impacting Christians.
While Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces have smaller Christian populations, their isolation increases their exposure to violence.
What has Changed in Pakistan in the Past Year?
The situation for Christians in Pakistan remains largely unchanged, with the country remaining at number eight on the World Watch List. While reported incidents of violence are relatively low, this is largely attributed to Christians being compelled to remain silent about their faith, highlighting the significant dangers they face.

please pray
Lord Jesus, our hearts are heavy at the dangers facing our family in Pakistan. Bring an end to false blasphemy accusations – expose the lies and hatred. Protect young girls and surround them with environments that encourage their flourishing. Breathe hope and purpose into the hearts of those in bondage to poverty and labour, and give them freedom. Soften the hearts of the authorities towards Christians, and strengthen Your children amidst so many different challenges. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
