These tools are designed to integrate with existing ERP, MES, and PLM systems to optimize composites manufacturing operations in real time by predicting risks and automatically executing approved decisions.
The shift from passive dashboards to proactive agents is the new frontier for industrial software. While traditional AI assistants primarily answer questions, CompositesWorld reports that Plataine is positioning its latest AI Agents as active contributors to plant operations. These systems don’t just report on what happened; they simulate alternative production scenarios and explain the impact of different options to planners.
Plataine’s Agentic AI for Composites Manufacturing
At CAMX, the company is demonstrating a suite of agents built to monitor material availability, tooling, equipment status, and quality constraints. The goal is to move beyond conversational AI toward software that identifies bottlenecks and recommends actions within defined operational boundaries.
Two specific tools are central to this rollout. The AI Production Scheduler dynamically reschedules production when machine availability changes or unexpected disruptions occur. Meanwhile, the Material AI Agent focuses on preventing shortages, reducing waste, and minimizing out-time risk to optimize inventory utilization.
Plataine’s approach emphasizes cross-functional coordination. Rather than optimizing a single process in isolation, the agents share information between scheduling, tooling, and quality operations. According to the company, these tools integrate with existing IIoT and PLM systems, meaning manufacturers don’t have to replace their current software infrastructure to see gains in throughput and on-time delivery.
Microsoft Foundry and the Move to Production Systems
The industrial push toward agentic AI mirrors a broader infrastructure shift at the platform level. At the Build 2026 event in San Francisco, Microsoft announced new functionality for Microsoft Foundry, which it describes as the place where AI agents move from experiments to production systems,

For developers, this means a transition from simple model endpoints to a full suite of runtime, memory, and governance tools. Microsoft Foundry now provides managed sandboxed sessions with filesystem access and supports long-running agents like Hermes and OpenClaw. The platform also introduces routines in public preview, allowing agents to handle scheduled tasks such as daily reporting or overnight ticket triage.
Procedural Memory and Success Rate Gains
A critical hurdle for production agents is the ability to learn from previous actions. Microsoft is addressing this through procedural memory,
a feature that entered public preview at the end of 2025. Unlike session memory, which tracks what was said, procedural memory helps agents learn how to carry out work across different runs.
The impact of this capability is measurable. Early Tau bench results indicated that enabling procedural memory led to absolute success rate gains of 14 percent (ranging from 7 to 14 percent) while maintaining costs near the baseline, as reported by InfoQ.
Tooling, Grounding, and Distribution
To prevent agents from being overwhelmed by too many options, Microsoft introduced Toolboxes in public preview. This allows tools and skills to be registered once and discovered at runtime. The platform uses tool search to select only a small set of relevant tools for a specific task rather than exposing every available function to the model.
Grounding—the process of linking AI responses to verified data—is handled via Foundry IQ. This intelligence layer unifies various sources, including Azure SQL and Fabric IQ, behind a single retrieval endpoint. For real-time needs, Microsoft Web IQ provides live web grounding with responses under 200 milliseconds.
The final piece of the production puzzle is distribution. Microsoft planned the general availability of direct publishing from Foundry into Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot for June 2026. This ensures that agents built within the Foundry environment carry the necessary identity, permissions, and policy automatically when they reach the end user.
As these tools move from the lab to the factory floor, the focus has shifted from what AI can say to what AI can execute. Whether it is a production scheduler at CAMX or a procedural memory agent in Azure, the goal is a system that can actually perform work across runs without constant human intervention.
