Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged a nationwide transition to electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce fuel costs and bolster the national economy. The initiative includes the launch of an EV drive for the Islamabad traffic police, with 15 eco-smart electric vehicles already delivered.
Nationwide Shift to Electric Vehicles
Sharif emphasized the importance of adopting environment-friendly EVs as a means to cut reliance on imported fuel. The move is expected to provide economic relief and protect the country’s financial stability, according to officials.
The Islamabad traffic police are the first to benefit from the initiative, receiving 15 electric vehicles from the Prime Minister. Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi was present at the handover ceremony.
Currently, several electric car options are available in Pakistan, with prices under 60 Lakh Pakistani Rupees. These include models from various manufacturers, catering to different consumer needs and preferences.
The government’s push for EVs aligns with a broader global trend towards sustainable transportation and reduced carbon emissions. Further details on the nationwide rollout and incentives for EV adoption are expected to be announced soon.
