A resident of East Ferris has been charged with impaired driving and multiple offences following an investigation into an intimate partner violence incident. The North Bay OPP responded to a report of an assault on Saturday, December 20, and subsequently located and arrested the suspect after a flight from police.
Impaired Driving and Assault Charges Laid
On December 20, at 11:15 p.m., officers responded to a reported assault at a residence in East Ferris. The suspect had already fled the scene in a vehicle when police arrived.
Police located the vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 17 near Sturgeon Falls. An initial attempt to stop the vehicle resulted in the driver fleeing at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was located shortly after, and the driver was arrested.
Officers determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and transported them to the West Nipissing detachment for further testing. The driver refused to provide a breath sample.
A 46-year-old from East Ferris is facing the following charges:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Failure or refusal to comply with a demand
- Assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
- Flight from a peace officer
- Break, enter a place – commit an indictable offence
- Mischief – destroys or damages property
- Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
To protect the victim’s identity, police are not releasing the name of the accused due to the intimate partner violence nature of the incident.
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay in January of 2026. They also received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
