Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is in Japan to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, technology, and environmental issues, officials said Sunday.
Strengthening Ties with Japan
President Prabowo’s visit comes at the invitation of Emperor Naruhito, with planned meetings also scheduled with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi stated that the engagements aim to highlight existing partnerships between the two nations.
“The planned meetings will strengthen cooperation and friendship between both countries, as Mr. President will draw special attention to strategic matters that have been at the core of our cooperation with the Japanese government,” Hadi remarked.
President Prabowo departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta on Sunday morning. He was accompanied on his flight by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Minister Hadi, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo saw the president off.
Following his agenda in Japan, President Prabowo and his delegation are scheduled to continue to the Republic of Korea for further official engagements. The visits are part of Indonesia’s broader strategy to consolidate its role within East Asian strategic relations.
Cabinet Secretary Wijaya confirmed that President Prabowo will make a courtesy call on Emperor Naruhito before meeting with Prime Minister Takaichi at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo.
