President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed that the development of Indonesia’s Hajj Village in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is aimed at making the Hajj pilgrimage more affordable for Indonesian Muslims.

Indonesia to Develop Affordable Hajj Village in Mecca

“Every pilgrim will receive decent accommodations, do not worry. I promise the best services there, as I am also determined to reduce the Hajj cost for the Indonesian people,” Prabowo stated during Nahdlatul Ulama’s (NU) 100th-anniversary commemoration event in Malang, East Java, on Sunday.

Indonesia has secured a land lot in Mecca, considered the holiest city in Islam, which will be used to develop the “Hajj Village” for Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. The project is intended to ensure decent and affordable facilities, along with the best possible service quality, for Indonesian pilgrims.

The government anticipates the completion of a decent Hajj Village within three years. In the coming months, 1,000 rooms will be available for Indonesian pilgrims, with plans for further expansion.

The landmark deal to acquire a hotel and land in Mecca was enabled by recent changes in Saudi policy, following what Minister of the State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi described as “extraordinary diplomacy” by President Prabowo, opening access to foreign asset ownership in Mecca.

Danantara Indonesia, which oversees strategic state investments, confirmed the purchase of the Novotel Thakher Makkah hotel and approximately five hectares of land for the Indonesian Hajj Village. The hotel currently features 1,461 rooms across three towers, accommodating 4,383 pilgrims.

Plans include adding 13 towers, increasing the total capacity to 6,025 rooms, alongside integrated facilities to enhance comfort, efficiency, and services for Indonesian pilgrims.
