The Police Regional Office in Calabarzon (PRO-4A) joined the Philippine National Police (PNP) in commemorating the National Day of Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of the SAF 44 with a solemn ceremony Sunday at the Bantayog ng mga Bayaning Tagapamayapa in Calamba City.

Honoring the Fallen

The ceremony honored the 44 members of the Special Action Force (SAF) who were killed in action in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in 2025. A wreath-laying ceremony was led by Roselle Nacino, wife of PO2 Nicky Nacino Jr., one of the slain SAF members. The first wreath symbolized the enduring sacrifice of the families and the nation’s gratitude for the heroism of their loved ones.

PRO-4A director BGen. Paul Kenneth Lucas laid the second wreath as a sign of respect, solidarity and unwavering support of the PNP to the families of the fallen heroes.

“Their courage and sacrifice continue to inspire generations of police officers and Filipinos,” Lucas said.

A message from acting PNP chief LtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., who was unable to attend the Laguna ceremony, was read by Lucas. The message stated that the National Day of Remembrance is about honoring the lives behind the sacrifice of the SAF 44, who willingly served despite the dangers of their profession.

“The SAF 44 were not just elite commandos. They were sons, husbands, fathers, brothers, friends. Men who knew the dangers of their work, and still chose to serve. Hindi sila nag-atubili. Hindi sila umatras. Pinili nilang tumindig kahit kapalit ay buhay,” the message read.

The PNP chief also said that their valor reminds every police officer of the responsibility they carry and the ultimate price of service. He stated that honoring the fallen means ensuring those who follow serve in a disciplined, accountable, and trustworthy police organization.

“We honor the fallen by making sure those who follow serve in a police organization that is disciplined, accountable, and worthy of public trust. Let this day strengthen our resolve. Let it remind us of what is at stake and let it bind us together as one police force, and one nation,” the message also said.

The commemoration concluded with a renewed pledge from PRO-4A to honor the memory of the SAF 44 through faithful service, integrity and dedication to the Filipino people.
