Repeat cycle: Laundromat burgled eight times in three weeks

A 29-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly being caught during her ninth burglary of a South Auckland laundromat in less than three weeks.

Between March 26 and April 13, the woman and several associates allegedly targeted the laundromat on Jellicoe Road in Manurewa on eight separate occasions prior to their arrest.

South Auckland Laundromat Burglary Details

Inspector MinHo Lee stated that during the series of burglaries, washing machines and dryers were broken into to steal coins from the deposit boxes.

Police were alerted to a new incident around 7:08 a.m. yesterday, reporting that machines at the facility were being broken into with a hammer and crowbar.

Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and arrested a man and a woman who were found damaging the property. Lee described the arrest as a “great outcome,” noting that staff caught a recidivist burglar red-handed.

Court Proceedings

The 29-year-old woman was due to appear in the Manukau District Court today. She faces nine counts of burglary and five counts of possession of an instrument for burglary.

A 35-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Manukau District Court on May 5, charged with burglary and possession of an instrument for burglary.
